Just a quick note today.
This week, a group of college students have come to Vermilion County to facilitate a summer youth program for the Catholic parishes in our area. Each day, Mass is held at 11:15, and the parish community is invited to join the kids. So, I attended yesterday and today, enjoying the sight of these kids in grades 1 through 6 lifting their voices in prayer.
But today, there was something extra special. During Communion, we sang the simple song “Father, I Adore You.” The simplicity of the lyrics and melody make this a perfect song for young children. As we continued to sing in our pews, one of the collegiate leaders began to break into a round…and everyone’s voices raised even more beautifully.
I was moved to tears. Here I was, immersed in a time of worship, hearing not just pretty music, but pretty music sung by children. So much that I love…music, children, Jesus…all at the same time. It doesn’t get much better!
