I don’t follow Hollywood people or news much. Half the time, if something shows up on my newsfeed I don’t even know who the people are. But over the last couple of days, I have seen a lot about Chrissy Teigen and John Legend losing their preborn son due to miscarriage. The couple has posted many heart wrenching photos. My heart breaks for them.
I know enough to know these two are staunch supporters of legal abortion and PP as an organization. There is a bit of irony, perhaps, in the amount of attention this little boy is getting, based on their worldview. But here’s the thing. This little boy is worth that attention. This couple is now grieving the loss of their Very. Real. Son. I am sickened by some of the negative comments (I know, I know, stay away from the comboxes!) about this couple “staging” the photos, being attention-seeking narcissists, etc. Stop. It.
Unless you have held your own child who never took a breath, you may never fully understand this. To accuse this couple of using this loss for publicity is sick and cruel and inhumane. (By the way, many hospitals have photographers to take pictures during these difficult moments. They may not take pictures “during” the loss, but of the baby and parents, yes. Bruce & I have some pictures of Gabriel, and I am SO grateful the hospital provided this service.)
I don’t care about Tiegen’s & Legend’s politics or their acting/singing/whatever right now. I see them as two parents who had to leave the hospital, hearing their own cries instead of the cries of a newborn. I care about them as people.
And, who knows…perhaps because of this loss, these two parents will re-think their views on the humanity of the preborn. Maybe they will reach out and help others grieve. Maybe they will use their huge following for something good. As it is, their loss has prompted many conversations about when is a baby a baby. If you believe as I do (and as biology says), that life begins at conception, then pray for this couple. Please do not question their motives.
